Updating your Nano Cortex

Overview

The Cortex Cloud app is central to managing your Nano Cortex. It allows you to easily download and install the latest NanOS updates wirelessly via Bluetooth. For more detailed information on using the app, check out our guide on using the Cortex Cloud app.

Pairing Nano Cortex with the Cortex Cloud app

To update your Nano Cortex, you’ll first need to pair it with the Cortex Cloud app on your smartphone or tablet.

Step 1: Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone or tablet.

Step 2: Launch the Cortex Cloud app on your smartphone or tablet. If you haven’t installed it yet, download it from your device's app store. The app is available on iOS and Android platforms.

Step 3: When prompted, grant the Cortex Cloud app permission to access Bluetooth. This allows the app to search for and connect to your Nano Cortex.

Step 4: In the Cortex Cloud app, go to the ‘Devices’ menu and tap Add New. Your smartphone or tablet will begin searching for nearby Nano Cortex units.

Step 5: To put your Nano Cortex into Pairing Mode, press and hold the EXIT and CAPTURE buttons simultaneously for 1 second.

You’ll know the device is in Pairing Mode when the GAIN LED ring illuminates in a clockwise direction, and Footswitch I's LED starts blinking slowly.

Step 6: Once your Nano Cortex is detected, the app will finalize the pairing process. After pairing is complete, the app will display the current configuration of your Nano Cortex.

Your Nano Cortex is now connected to the Cortex Cloud app and ready for firmware updates and other remote management features.

Pairing additional Nano Cortex units (optional)

If you want to pair additional Nano Cortex units to the Cortex Cloud app, repeat the pairing process:

Step 1: Go to the ‘Devices’ menu and tap Add New.

Step 2: Put the additional Nano Cortex into Pairing Mode by pressing and holding the EXIT and CAPTURE buttons simultaneously for 1 second.

Step 3: Once paired, you can rename each Nano Cortex for easy identification in the app.

The app will finalize the pairing process and display the current configuration.

Updating your Nano Cortex

After successfully pairing your Nano Cortex with the Cortex Cloud app, you can now proceed with updating to the latest version of NanOS.

Check for available updates

Step 1: On your smartphone or tablet, launch the Cortex Cloud app.

Step 2: Navigate to the ‘Devices’ menu where your paired Nano Cortex will be listed.

Step 3: If a firmware update is available, you’ll see a notification banner at the top of the screen, prompting you to update to the latest version of NanOS.

Start the update process

When updating your Nano Cortex, please ensure that you have a stable internet connection on your smartphone/tablet and that your Nano Cortex is close to your device during the update process.

Important: To prevent installation issues, please avoid locking your smartphone/tablet, disabling Bluetooth, or minimizing or closing the Cortex Cloud app during the update.

Step 1: If an update is available, tap the Update button on the notification banner to begin downloading the update.

Step 2: The Cortex Cloud app will begin downloading the latest NanOS firmware. Nano Cortex's BANK and CAPTURE LEDs will indicate the download progress. 

• Note: Ensure your smartphone/tablet remains connected to the internet, and your Nano Cortex stays paired via Bluetooth and close to your device during the download.

Step 3: Once the download is complete, the installation process will begin automatically. This may take a few minutes.

Step 4: After the installation process, Nano Cortex will reboot and automatically reconnect to your smartphone/tablet.

Your Nano Cortex is now updated and ready to use with the latest features and improvements.
