Mantra 1.2.0 is now available

Mantra version 1.2.0 is now available to download via the Downloads page.

This update focuses on making the Harmonizer more intuitive and musical, with smarter MIDI behavior and greater flexibility, alongside quality-of-life improvements and minor bug fixes.

What’s new in version 1.2.0

Smarter MIDI voice allocation

Mantra’s MIDI implementation has been significantly improved in version 1.2.0, making the Harmonizer more intuitive when controlled with MIDI.

Harmonizer voices are now dynamically distributed based on the number of MIDI notes being played. When fewer MIDI notes are active than available voices, all available voices are distributed as evenly as possible across the active notes, automatically creating unison voices.

For example, playing a single MIDI note with eight Harmonizer voices active assigns all eight voices to that note. Playing two notes assigns four voices to each, while playing three notes distributes the voices 3/3/2.

When the number of MIDI notes exceeds the available voices, intelligent voice stealing reassigns the oldest active voice to the newest note. This allows Mantra to maintain predictable polyphonic behavior without requiring you to manually manage the available voices.

MIDI mode now also supports Hold, allowing harmonies to be sustained without continuously holding the corresponding MIDI notes.

Custom Scales

Version 1.2.0 introduces Custom Scales, giving you greater control over the notes available to both Tune and Harmonizer.

Create a Custom Scale by selecting any combination of one to twelve notes from the chromatic keyboard. The same Custom Scale is shared between the Tune and Harmonizer modules.

Custom Scales in Tune

When a Custom Scale is selected, Tune quantizes incoming pitches to the nearest active note in the scale, just as it does with the existing scale options.

This also opens up new creative possibilities. Selecting a single note, for example, causes all incoming pitches to be tuned to that note, while selecting all twelve notes creates a chromatic scale.

Custom Scales in Harmonizer

Custom Scales also introduce a new way to define harmony intervals.

When using a Custom Scale, the Harmonizer’s interval control changes to Steps. Rather than moving by fixed semitone intervals, each step moves to the next active note within your Custom Scale.

A value of +1 moves to the next active note above the input pitch, while −1 moves to the previous active note below it. This means the musical distance represented by each step adapts naturally to the notes in your scale.

Undo and Redo

Mantra 1.2.0 introduces Undo and Redo with history, making it easier to experiment with settings and return to previous states while working on a sound.
